Let the battle begin…

As a writer I need an audience for my work. It’s not for adulation it is to see that my work has meaning. My sole purpose with my writing is to create art using photographs and the written word to create beauty in the space my love no longer occupies.

It’s not a complicated reason. Of course, it would be nice to make some money too.

I like to take some work to open mics to try them out. One such forum is Storyslam in Edmonton. You pay five dollars and you put your name in a hat. Ten names are drawn but not all at once, that would be too kind. No, each potential reader waits for their name to be pulled. Some don’t get pulled and their five dollars rolls over to the next month. Some do and might be lucky enough to win the night - and the pot of money that awaits the winner. Winning gets you to the annual final. I have won the night once so far but alas I had to miss the final because of a family matter. I hope to win again!
